Hi everyone! I am sitting down to write this blog mere hours after returning from a whirlwind trip to Oregon State University, so please excuse any glaring mistakes. The 18 hour suburban ride home from the beautiful city of Corvallis, Oregon gave me a lot of time to reflect on the first half of fall semester, and also on how much I can\u2019t stand 18 hour suburban rides. Despite my current state of sleep deprivation I have to admit I feel somewhat refreshed after spending a few days away from campus. It\u2019s easy to get lost in the chaos of midsemester and I have realized it\u2019s important to take time to focus on something other than class and work every once in a while. In truth, I am much more productive when I have the chance to spend just a bit of time not thinking at all about school, tests, assignments, etc. I\u2019m sure you all have heard this advice before but I believe it is worth reiterating; find time to do something you enjoy every once in a while! Now, an 18 hour car ride may not normally be my cup of tea, but getting to spend time with good friends and tour a wonderful city and veterinary school definitely is. I encourage everyone to find something they enjoy (not related to school) and spend at least an hour every week on that activity. For example, when not driving a carload of people to a distant state, I really enjoy hiking and skiing and I try to make time at least once a week to hike, cross-country, or downhill ski. Whatever your interest, I guarantee taking some time to just enjoy life will remind you why you are here at UW in the first place. I wish you all the best of luck on midterms and hope you will find the thing that reminds you why you put up with class, work, and Laramie weather!<\/p>\n
