When I was looking at colleges, my mom gave me a good piece of advice: \u201cWhich college campus can you see yourself walking around on?\u201d Out of all the colleges I visited, the University of Wyoming was the one place that I could envision myself walking around on campus. I could imagine myself actually living and breathing here, and that was my first indicator that UW would be a good fit for me.<\/p>\n

After attending the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources\u2019 section of Discovery Days, the first thing that caught my attention was the friendly, personable staff. I had been worried that college professors would be cold, unapproachable, and look down a long, thin nose at me if I was struggling in my classes\u2014but what I saw in the College of Ag was much different than that horridly unpleasant picture. There were real humans<\/em> who cared about my success. One gentleman was even wearing the exact same jacket that my dad has, and that simple similarity helped me relax. I could imagine being able to comfortably ask questions or visit office hours without being terrified. Between the helpful staff and the major and minor options that would lead to a job I could look forward to, the College of Ag was beginning to seem like the right choice. The large number of available scholarships within the College also caught my attention as I had a personal goal of graduating with my undergraduate debt free\u2014a goal which I\u2019m going to achieve thanks to many generous, kindhearted people from both my hometown and through this college. From scholarships for tuition and fees to scholarships for studying abroad or for attending professional events, I was impressed with the funding that was available for providing students with opportunities.<\/p>\n

After becoming a student in the College of Ag, I began to realize just how much this college has to offer. I personally really appreciate three areas of opportunity, the first being many clubs! \u00a0Clubs are a perfect place to meet like-minded people and develop yourself professionally. From the Pre-Vet and Range Clubs to the Wyoming Collegiate Cattle Association and American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences, there is a broad range of clubs that encompasses so many interesting areas. Secondly, I love that undergraduate research is a feasible opportunity. If research interests you and you are willing to be a respectful person and a hard worker, there will very likely be an opportunity for you to find undergraduate research. Lastly, I appreciate the internships and job opportunities that are shared with students. Getting internships and jobs during your time in college provides invaluable experience (and some pocket change!).<\/p>\n

As I finish my last year in college, I am grateful for the people who\u2019ve been helpful, friendly, and kind to me during this four-year journey. I am grateful for the opportunities for professional development in which I\u2019ve been able to take part. Most of all, I\u2019m grateful that when my journey at UW ends, I will have the education I need to begin the next adventure that God brings my way.<\/p>\n
