I feel like I am a different student than I was last year, and that is huge for me. Let me explain.

Currently, I am in my second year at the University of Wyoming. Last year I was so concerned about getting into the college groove that I really didn’t participate in anything apart from class, which was due for a couple reasons. First of all, going to college is a pretty big change, and it really does take time to get used to it. I am guessing that it’ll be one of those things where it doesn’t feel completely natural until you’re about to be finished with it. This being my second year, I am now trying to adjust living in an apartment with a roommate just as I was adjusting to the dorm life last year.

Secondly, I was fortunate enough to come in with an incredible amount of credits from classes I took in high school. I was already in some pretty tough classes that would be tough for students in their second and third years of college, let alone for someone that just graduated a few months prior. My devotion to doing well in school prevented me from really expanding my horizons by not being able to try anything new.

As I entered my second year of school, I was already something different than I was last year. The first day of the fall semester, I was now participating in two different organizations on campus. I am extremely honored and privileged to be apart of the wonderful College of Ag student ambassadors. In addition to this, I am also a member of Iron Skull, an honorary organization that is also on campus. Being a member of these organizations will allow me to be able to participate in activities all across campus, and even around the state when I go represent the College of Agriculture. For example, not even 4 weeks into the school year, I was able to help out at the College of Ag BBQ before the UW football game on September 20th. As a part of Iron Skull, I will be helping with Homecoming Sing, the official Wednesday event of Homecoming week.

These opportunities made me realize how much I was missing last year. Being able to help with these events is not only fun, but also extremely valuable. I am looking forward to just what else this school year may bring in its remaining months.

The 2014- 2015 school year has already been one for the books, and we haven’t even made it into the second month of school as I am writing this.
