Master Gardeners are trained volunteers who share their knowledge of gardening and horticulture to help others grow. Backed by the University of Wyoming Extension, they provide science-based information to support healthy gardens, landscapes, and communities. Master Gardeners combine a passion for plants with a commitment to education and community service.
To provide research-based horticultural education and promote sustainable gardening practices through trained volunteer efforts.
To train volunteers in horticulture so they can support Extension outreach, answer gardening questions, and contribute to community education and environmental stewardship.
Reach out to your local University of Wyoming Extension office to learn about upcoming training opportunities and complete an application.
Attend the Master Gardener training, which includes 40+ hours of instruction on topics like soil science, plant care, pest management, and sustainable practices.
Demonstrate your understanding of course material through a final exam or equivalent evaluation.
Complete a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer service in your community, using what you’ve learned to assist others and support Extension outreach.
Once training and volunteer requirements are met, you’ll be certified as a University of Wyoming Master Gardener.
Maintain your status through annual volunteer reporting and continuing education to stay current with best practices.
