4-H volunteers help young people learn new skills, build confidence, and make connections in their communities. Whether you want to lead a project, help with a club, coach a team, or lend a hand at an event, there are many ways to get involved.
There’s no single way to be a 4-H volunteer. Choose a role that fits your interests, experience, and the amount of time you have to give.
SHARE WHAT YOU KNOW
Help members learn and grow in a specific project area, such as livestock, photography, foods, gardening, shooting sports, or another area you know and enjoy.
HELP A CLUB THRIVE
Help guide a local 4-H club, coordinate members and families, and work with other volunteers to create a positive club experience.
BRING ACTIVITIES TO LIFE
Help organize and lead activities such as community service, recreation, fundraising, workshops, and other 4-H experiences.
PREPARE MEMBERS TO COMPETE
Teach and support members preparing for a 4-H contest, competition, or event.
HELP BEHIND THE SCENES
Serve on a committee that helps plan, organize, and support a specific part of the county 4-H program.
SUPPORT COUNTY 4-H
Serve in an advisory role, help with fundraising and county events, advocate for 4-H, and support the program throughout Park County.
SUPPORT YOUTH AT OVERNIGHT EVENTS
Help provide a safe, supportive environment for youth attending overnight camps, trips, contests, and other 4-H events.
• Must be 21 years of age or older
• Complete required chaperone-specific training
• Overnight activities must have at least two designated adults
• For up to 20 youth, a 2:20 adult-to-youth ratio is required; additional adults are required at a 1:10 ratio
Adults age 19 or older can apply to become certified Wyoming 4-H volunteers. Certification helps ensure that 4-H provides safe, positive experiences for youth.
STEP 1
Submit your adult volunteer enrollment application through the online 4-H enrollment system and complete the required agreements and releases.
STEP 2
Complete and successfully pass the University of Wyoming background screening process.
STEP 3
Complete the required 4-H Volunteer Certification Training. Volunteer training and background screening must be renewed every five years.
Returning after a break? Volunteers returning to 4-H after a break in service of one year or more must successfully complete the background screening process again.
Whether you already know how you’d like to help or you’re not sure which volunteer role is right for you, the Park County Extension Office can help you get started.
