Price and Revenue Protection in the 2014 Farm Bill: Update for Wyoming | ||
Publication #: B-1274 Publication Author(s): |
Description:
The 2014 Farm Bill eliminated prior farm safety net programs and introduced a suite of new ones. During 2015 eligible landowners and producers had a one-time opportunity for the life of the 2014 farm bill, through 2018, to enroll in these new programs that offer price protection (the Price Loss Coverage program, PLC) or revenue protection (the Agriculture Risk Coverage programs, ARC). This report reviews how these programs work, and discusses the potential for enrollees to receive program payments based on market prices and yields experienced during the 2014 -2015 marketing year. It also presents data on ARC/PLC program elections by Wyoming producers, and looks into the question of whether Wyoming growers are taking advantage of these programs to provide some degree of price or revenue protection for their farm businesses.
