Growing woody plants in Wyoming can be a challenge, especially in areas of high elevation or low precipitation. For some locations in the state, both factors must be taken into consideration. For example, the climate cannot be changed, but the gardener can create micro-climates that amplify shrubs potential for long-term survival. According to the authors, "Proper placement of shrubs in the landscape is one of the most important factors affecting shrub survival in Wyoming."
