Enterprise Budget: Bison Cow-Calf | ||
Publication #: B-1092 Publication Author(s): |
Description:
At the beginning of the eighteenth century, there were estimated to be 40 to 60 million bison in North America. Unregulated hunting reduced the numbers to only about 1,500 animals by the late nineteenth century. The last 100 years has been devoted to protecting the species from extinction and to developing viable herds. Enterprise budget: Bison cow-calf estimates the costs and returns for a bison cow-calf enterprise. Expense variables, such as land, labor, capital, machinery, equipment, taxes, insurance, and overhead, are discussed, as well as interest on breeding stock and market prices on calves. This 11-page bulletin presents a sample enterprise budget, monthly summary of returns and expenses, and investment summary on a cow-calf bison operation.
