Niobrara County

UW Extension, Niobrara County Gardening

A high tunnel and four outdoor raised beds are located at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds, which allow University of Wyoming Extension personnel, along with 4-H members and other youths, to grow fresh produce and flowers.

The facilities enable users to learn about various aspects of plant sciences, horticulture, gardening, and the importance of pollinators. Much of the produce is donated to the Helpmate Crisis Center, Niobrara County Food Pantry, Niobrara Senior Center, and Niobrara Community Hospital & Clinic, all located in Lusk. The gardens produce more than 300 pounds of fresh produce each season.

The program is a collaborative effort with Grow a Little Extra (see statewide section). Additionally, it allows youths to participate in the 4-H Gardening and Horticulture Project.
