Grow A Little Extra is an invitation from First Lady, Jennie Gordon, inviting all to \u2018grow a little extra\u2019 in their gardens this year to donate the produce to local food pantries. Free seeds are available at the Extension Office near Miller Park for you to grow and donate. (Available seeds are: Plum Regal Tomatoes, Lunchbox Peppers, Honey Bear Acorn Squash, Gateway Cucumbers, Sunangel Spinach, and Provider Green Beans.)\u00a0 In conjunction with this, we are also looking for talented individuals that are comfortable sharing their gardening expertise with individuals and organizations that also want to participate in Grow A Little Extra.<\/span><span style=\"color: black\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i><span style=\"color: black\">Grow A Little Extra <\/span><\/i><\/b><span style=\"color: black\">is a partnership with the First Lady Jennie Gordon&#8217;s Wyoming Hunger Initiative, the University of Wyoming Extension\u2019s Cent$ible Nutrition Program (CNP) and Master Gardener Program, encouraging community organizations and individuals to grow extra produce for neighbors facing food insecurity.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Current CNP Classes in Teton County<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><b>Due to COVID-19 (coronavirus), all CNP in-person classes have been cancelled until further notice. We are working on providing classes online and will announce updates as well as share resources on Facebook at: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/UWCNP\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/UWCNP\/<\/a><\/b><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Helping Families Eat Better for Less<\/h2>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-131\" src=\"http:\/\/wyoextension.org\/laramiecounty\/wp-content\/uploads\/iStock-181127322-1-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"315\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Cent$ible Nutrition\u00a0Program (CNP) is a state-wide cooking and nutrition education program.\u00a0 It is funded by the USDA through two grants, the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed).<\/p>\n<p>The goal of CNP is to help families and individuals eat better for less. It follows the USDA MyPlate and the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. CNP is free to families and individuals who income\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uwyo.edu\/cnp\/qualify\/index.html\">qualify<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>CNP is part of the University of Wyoming Extension and the University of Wyoming Family and Consumer Sciences Department.<\/p>\n<h4>Join and learn secrets to:<\/h4>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"justify\">1. Invest your food dollars in the best nutrition choices<br \/>\n2. Stretch your food dollar to last the whole month<br \/>\n3. Choose foods lower in fat and cholesterol<br \/>\n4. Prepare low-cost meat dishes in tender, delicious ways<br \/>\n5. Recognize advertising techniques that encourage you to spend more<br \/>\n6. Increase calcium intake by including more calcium-rich foods in your diet<br \/>\n7. Plan meals your family will enjoy<br \/>\n8. Alter recipes so they are lower in fat, sugar, and sodium<br \/>\n9. Protect your family from food borne illnesses<br \/>\n10. Save time, energy, and make new friends!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"left\">A series of lessons are available to participants.
