Rice Pilaf
Add flavor to this brown rice side dish. Make it a meal by adding meat and vegetables.

Ingredients

chopped onion

canola oil

uncooked brown rice
1 ¼

chicken broth or bouillon

teaspoon
black pepper

teaspoon
garlic powder
Instructions
In a saucepan, cook onions and oil until soft, but not brown.
Add rice, broth, pepper, and garlic powder. Heat to boiling. Stir once.
Reduce heat, cover, and simmer
45 minutes
until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
Mix lightly and serve hot.
Notes
Variation
Make it a Meal: Add 1/2 to 1 cup cooked meat and vegetables after simmering. Mix lightly. Cook covered for 5 minutes more.
