Private Applicator License FAQs

Q: Who needs a Private Applicator license? A: Anyone who wants to purchase and apply restricted use pesticides on their own property. These are typically ranchers, landowners, homeowners, and others.

Q: How does someone get a Private Applicator license? A: There are currently three ways to obtain a Category 1001 Private Applicator license.

  1. Attend an in-person program delivered by UW Extension. Check the upcoming events below for in-person PSEP options.
  2. Study the CORE manual (available online or from the Extension office) and schedule a time with the Extension office to take the online test. Requires a 70% to pass.
  3. Pick up a take-home workbook from the Extension office and fill it out at your own pace. We will mail it in to the WDA with your license application. This is the slowest process.

NOTE: In Wyoming, pesticide applicator licensing is overseen by the Wyoming Department of Agriculture. Educational materials and programs for certification are produced and delivered by University of Wyoming Extension personnel.

Commercial Applicator License FAQs

Q: Who needs a Commercial Applicator license? A: Agency employees, folks who apply pesticides as a part of their business, anyone who applies pesticides to property they do not own on behalf of someone else.

Q: How does someone get a Commercial Applicator license? A: Study for, take, and pass with a 70% or better the CORE manual exam and one other category exam. See THIS page for all categories and associated materials.
