Trail Mix Ingredients

Nuts & Seeds
1/2 cup

• Almonds
• Cashews
• Pecans
• Peanuts
• Pumpkin seeds
• Sunflower seeds
• Walnuts

Grains
1/4 cup

• Bran flakes cereal
• Oat cereal
• Popcorn
• Pretzels
• Puffed rice cereal
• Shredded wheat cereal
• Whole-grain crackers

Dried Fruit
1/2 cup

• Apples
• Apricots
• Bananas
• Cranberries
• Cherries
• Dates
• Mango
• Pineapple
• Raisins

Sweets
1/4 cup (optional)

• Butterscotch chips
• Chocolate chips
• Mini marshmallows
• Peanut butter chips

Flavor
Sprinkle on (optional)

• Coconut
• Coffee Beans
• Dried ginger
• Sesame sticks
• Spices
• Wasabi peas

Instructions

  1. Using the chart above, choose combinations to total the amount of nuts and seeds, grains, and dried fruits. For example, select 1/4 cup cashews and 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds to make a combined total of 1/2 cup.
  2. For a sweet addition, choose one or more items from the sweet column to total 1/4 cup.
  3. For a flavor option, add a sprinkling from the flavor column.
  4. Shake together in a resealable bag. Divide into 1/4-cup portions. Serve in mini paper cups or split into snack-size bags.

Makes 1 1/2 cups | 2 servings

  • Pecans, granola, dried apples, nutmeg
  • Cashews and sunflower seeds, popcorn, dried mango, bananas, coconut and ginger
  • Peanuts, oat cereal and pretzels, raisins, chocolate chips
  • Peanuts, puffed rice cereal, dried banana, chocolate chips
  • Almonds, wheat cereal, dried cranberries, peanut butter chips
  • Pumpkin seeds and almonds, fish-shaped whole-grain crackers, dried cherries and apples
