Rice Pilaf
Add flavor to this brown rice side dish. Make it a meal by adding meat and vegetables.

Ingredients
- ½ cup chopped onion
- 1 Tablespoon canola oil
- ½ cup uncooked brown rice
- 1 ¼ cups chicken broth or bouillon
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- In a saucepan, cook onions and oil until soft, but not brown.
- Add rice, broth, pepper, and garlic powder. Heat to boiling. Stir once.
- Reduce heat, cover, and simmer 45 minutes until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
- Mix lightly and serve hot.
Notes
Variation
- Make it a Meal: Add 1/2 to 1 cup cooked meat and vegetables after simmering. Mix lightly. Cook covered for 5 minutes more.
