Hummus

This recipe is easy to make and less expensive than store-bought hummus brands. Try it with your favorite vegetables.

Ingredients
 

  • 1 15-ounce can canned chickpeas or garbanzo beans
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder (or 2 chopped cloves or 1 tsp minced)
  • 2 teaspoons cumin
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
  • teaspoon salt (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Drain chickpeas and save the liquid.
  • Mash chickpeas with a large spoon, potato masher, hand mixer, blender, or food processor until smooth.
  • Add seasonings. Mix until blended. If hummus is too thick, add a little saved liquid or water.
  • Serve with whole-grain crackers, vegetables sticks, or tortilla chips.
