Thankful for Wyoming!

Hello Everyone!

I am Cinnamon Smith, a junior studying Agriculture Education and Agriculture Business at the University of Wyoming. Being raised on and Black Angus cattle ranch north of Gillette I learned how much of an impact Agriculture can have on our lives. After experiencing high school in one of the larger towns in our state and serving the Wyoming FFA as a state officer I can see the need for people to advocate for agriculture. This need led me to my chosen field of study. Agriculture Education opens a variety of doors for me as a student and I hope to do this for other students one day. I know I would not be the person I am today without the lessons I learned on the dust covered floors of my Agriculture Education classroom.

As we all wrap up our Thanksgiving holidays and look for the end of semester to be coming soon we can take time to reflect on the year. What are we thankful for? What does it mean to be truly thankful? I know I am both truly thankful and blessed to be able to attend the University of Wyoming and to call Wyoming home. Wyoming is what America wants to be. Here in Laramie and across the state it is normal for people to wave while driving, to hold the door open for each other, and to say good morning when walking on campus. In Wyoming it is normal to be treated like family no matter where you are, to be friends with the children of your parent’s college friends, and to know a person from every town in the state. These small things we take for granted every day, but people visiting our University find these qualities so inviting. Here we are family, friends, colleagues, and business partners. Here we are all thankful for the people and environment around us. This season we need to remember and remind ourselves of the things we are blessed with every day.

On behalf of the College of Agriculture and the University of Wyoming I wish all of you a very happy holiday season!
