The first lesson I learned was that office hours are there for a reason. I know that no one really wants to spend their spare time talking with professors, but it really does pay off. Not only do you get to know the professors (they are people too!), but you understand the material better. I know that I was usually too timid to ask questions in class, so office hours were my saving grace.
Another important thing is do NOT skip class. This is the first time in most students’ lives where they do not have someone telling them what to do. You are (or someone is) paying for you to attend college, and it is in your best interest to attend class. Who knows, you might even learn something.
It is also a great idea to get involved in something! There are plenty of Recognized Student Organizations (RSO) at the University of Wyoming to choose from (276 to be exact). So there is something for everyone. Not only does this help build your resume, but you meet new people who might become your best friends through college.
The final tidbit of advice is to try to maintain a positive attitude. There is always something to be thankful for. So always smile and embrace each new day.
