Petting a Bison on the Head–Check off the Bucket List!

Howdy!

I hope everyone is finding their rhythm again for the semester.  The summer flew by and it can be hard to find motivation to get “back to the grind” of classes.

Over the summer, I was blessed with an opportunity that rekindled my determination to do well in school.  After talking to my advisor and my boss at the Wyoming State Vet Lab (WSVL), they helped me make connections for a summer internship.  I worked with Dr. Tim Dawson in Cheyenne, WY for five weeks.  Dr. Dawson is a large animal veterinarian and rancher, so I was basically doing my dream job.  I helped with everything from planting trees for windbreaks to correcting prolapsed uteruses to Brucellosis testing bison.

Previously, I had never had any experience working with bison.  It was an eye opening experience to see how bison operations are run, as well as to witness first-hand the immense power packed into those animals.  Let’s just say that “kicks like lightning” is not an exaggeration!

When you find yourself dragging as you tackle {insert hardest class ever here}, remember to take a step back, breathe, and refocus yourself on why you’re here.  The purpose of the college experience is not to keep you from living life, but to provide opportunities for living it to the fullest!

Study hard and live life!
