Reflecting

2013 is almost over, this is the time to reflect and remember all that has happened. In January I took the Elements of Leadership class taught by Dean Frank Galey and Doug Stark. An insightful and motivational class, I highly recommend enrolling in it. Shortly after that I became the chairwoman for Ag Ambassadors. In the spring I attended the advisory board meeting in Casper, I always enjoy learning more about the College of Ag. After finals in May, I jet-setted across the world to Finland for four weeks of summer school. I’m thankful for the Beyond the Classroom Grant that the college of Ag funds. I grew so much while being in a foreign country all by myself. At the beginning of July I began working for Academic and Student Programs Office, with that job came the responsibility of planning the 2013 Ag Day BBQ. The real experience I gained is greater than any class I could ever enroll in. In September I was offered the opportunity to attend the Livestock Marketing Association annual Fly-In in Washington D.C. It was neat to see how the Ag industry operates with the government. In October I was awarded the position to be an intern at the Northern International Livestock Exposition in Billings, Montana. That was by far the best internship I have ever been on. I never felt inadequate because I was just an “intern” so I really invested my time and energy into doing the best I could to help put on the rodeo, horse futurities, horse sale and all the behind the scenes stuff. December brought the end of the semester and a busy Christmas break. I helped do a live broadcast of my high school’s basketball game on the radio and returned for the third year to work at a horse-drawn sleigh ride business.
2013 was a great year. I was able to travel, meet incredible people, learn invaluable lessons and continue to grow. I hope 2014 is just as great, if not better. What I’ve realized is that in order for that to happen, I have to make it happen. I am a big believer in mind over matter, so if I want something I have to go after it. It’s amazing how the more work you put in, the more things seem to fall into place and work in your favor. I have plenty to work on for the new year and I hope I can be better by this time next year.
Good Luck with your resolutions, good luck with the new semester and have a Happy New Year!
