The Direction I was Looking for

I entered the University of Wyoming with an undeclared major. I simply wasn’t sure of what I wanted to study or what future career I wanted to pursue. During my very first semester of college I took a Principles of Microeconomics course from a faculty member in the Ag & Applied Economics department, which, unexpectedly, ended up giving me the direction I was looking for. A visit to my professor’s office hours to discuss a class assignment led to a conversation about my confusion and need for guidance. She discussed the many perks of department of Ag & Applied Economics, and why she thought it would be a good fit for me. She also greatly emphasized the closeness and supportiveness of the staff and faculty in the department, and the College of Agriculture as a whole. This was something that certainly appealed to me, so after doing some additional research and assessing my personality, strengths and long-term goals, I decided to declare an Agricultural Business major. Since spending more time as a student in the College of Agriculture and becoming more involved in the college, I have certainly experienced the supportive and close-knit atmosphere that my professor was referring to. Everyone from the College’s staff, such as the individuals in the Dean’s and Extension office, to my academic advisor, to each of my professors within the college, have been incredibly helpful in one way or another, and have taught me, not only important academic lessons, but life lessons as well. In addition, I feel valued as an individual student, and I know that if I need assistance in any way, I can find it amongst the wonderful people in the College. Choosing to become a part of the College of Agriculture has been such a great decision, and I feel lucky to be surrounded by such a strong and supportive academic community.
