Vet Lab Experience

As midterms draw near all of us are getting ready for midterms exams and probably getting a bad case of spring fever! I know I can’t wait for spring break and I have a feeling the other students feel the same way. As mid-semester approaches, I am inclined to think about just one of the many amazing opportunities I have been given here at UW. This fall I started working at the Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory. For those of you not familiar with the WSVL, it is a full service diagnostic lab right here in Laramie. There are over 15 different specialized labs and I began working in the Regulatory serology lab which is responsible for all of the Brucellosis and Equine Infectious Anemia surveillance testing in the state of Wyoming. The WSVL is especially interested in hiring students to help with lab work and to help them gain a better understanding in their field of interest. This job has already taught me so much and I have recently been presented with the opportunity to rotate through many of the labs to learn a little about each specific department. My first stop is Bacteriology and I can’t wait to see what new experiences this brings! I wish everyone the best of luck on their midterm exams and as always: Go Pokes!
