When we graduate from high school, we have this idea that we are supposed to know exactly what we are going to do in college. In my last three and a half years of being in college, I have changed my major once, my concentration once, and my minor once. Change is okay! The classes I have taken while at the University of Wyoming have taught me not only the ways of the agriculture industry but also business. I became involved in clubs such as Wyoming Collegiate Cattle Association, UW Range Club, and WYOGOLD Leadership Council that have given me the opportunity to make connections with other students that have similar interests. It is so important to find groups that allow you to be who you are.
The University of Wyoming has a wide selection of classes. The classes I have ended up taking, helped to shape me into the person I am today. I learned what intrigues me and what I want to concentrate on with my studies. At the end of the day, this is your degree. It should be about what you want to learn, what drives you and what your goals in life are. I know you will not all follow the same path I do. Some of you may decide you love your major and really do know exactly what you want to do after graduation. Others may have a more difficult time finding this path, but remember, change is normal!
As a new student or a transfer student, like I was last year, it can be overwhelming to have so many choices and opportunities offered to you. It took me a while to learn this, but you don’t need to know everything at this moment in time, it is okay to change your major or concentration. The most important thing is to find your passion. We hope to help you find this passion in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, with great advisors, teachers and clubs to help you find your way—but even if it isn’t in our college, find what you love!
