Soil and Water Conservation Society

Howdy all!

My name is Tyrell Perry and I am Wyoming born and raised on a ranch near the small town of Clearmont, Wyoming in the Northeast part of the state.  Currently here at the University of Wyoming I am studying Rangeland Ecology and Watershed Management with minors in Reclamation and Restoration Ecology, Soil Sciences and Entomology.  I am also actively involved with clubs associated with the College of Agriculture including the Range Club and the newly established Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS) where I serve as president for the campus chapter.

We have just tipped over onto the second half and final stretch of this semester and everybody is getting excited and itchy about graduating or returning to summer jobs.  For myself, I will be graduating and immediately starting my graduate program research over the summer here at the University of Wyoming.  I am very excited for this opportunity to continue my education and to improve my skills eventually making me a much more marketable professional when I enter the work force.

I mentioned before I am the acting president of the SWCS campus chapter and my involvement in this chapter has kept me very busy as a student!  Here at UW there are so many opportunities to make invaluable connections with other students and even professionals in the field.  SWCS provides many of these opportunities; as a chapter we work with the Laramie Rivers Conservation District on their restoration projects around the Laramie area and over time we have built good report with staff from their office.  We have also hosted events where we give students the opportunity to hear about jobs in the natural resources fields that may be available to them after graduation.  Students also had the opportunity to make contacts with these professionals for future jobs, which several did!

SWCS is just one way students at the University of Wyoming can connect with other students as well as professionals in their related fields of study.  When students become enrolled or are thinking about enrolling at UW, be sure to check out all of the awesome opportunities available to them in the social community.
