As someone who is majoring in Animal Science but planning on going to medical school, people are always asking me how I “ended up in Animal Science”. Well, I like so many others didn’t really know what I wanted to do when I first came to college. So, I changed my major to Animal Science after my first semester and never really looked back. I fell in love with the atmosphere that Animal Science had, the classes were relatively small, my adviser was interested in where I was going in my academic career, things were kinda perfect. While in my Animal Nutrition class, I started researching what all I could do after I got my bachelor’s degree and ultimately decided I really wanted to go to medical school. Instead of changing my major again, I decided to stay in Animal Science because I enjoyed the classes and the professors teaching them. So, the moral of my story is it’s okay to not know what you’re doing or what you want to do after college. Change your mind and change your mind again, add a minor that you want but don’t need, take the class that isn’t required for your major just because you want to, study abroad for a semester because you can. I might not use half of the stuff that I learned, but I definitely don’t regret staying in the Animal Science program.
