Talk the talk…

Amidst the frenzy of controversy that has taken over much of our country’s news outlets and social media I thought it would be prudent to use this week’s blog as a reminder of the importance of character and ethics. One of my favorite books called Cowboy Ethics by James P. Owen, contains ten “cowboy codes of the West”. Whenever my patience is tested or I am tempted to engage in a nonproductive argument I like to remember one “code” in particular. Code number eight as written by Owen reminds us to “Talk less, say more.” Make your words count for something, don’t simply add to the swirling masses of useless chatter. We are much more likely to be listened to and respected when we concisely and eloquently convey our ideas. So I challenge you to give it a try! You may be surprised at how it will change the way you think as well as the way others respond to your thoughts! In following the code, I would like to keep this blog a brief one and wish you all a wonderful spring semester!

Go Pokes!
