Soil and Water Conservation Society

Howdy all!

My name is Tyrell Perry and I am Wyoming born and raised on a ranch near the small town of Clearmont, Wyoming in the Northeast part of the state.  Currently here at the University of Wyoming I am studying Rangeland Ecology and Watershed Management with minors in Reclamation and Restoration Ecology, Soil Sciences and Entomology.  I am also actively involved with clubs associated with the College of Agriculture including the Range Club and the newly established Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS) where I serve as president for the campus chapter.

We have just tipped over onto the second half and final stretch of this semester and everybody is getting excited and itchy about graduating or returning to summer jobs.  For myself, I will be graduating and immediately starting my graduate program research over the summer here at the University of Wyoming.  I am very excited for this opportunity to continue my education and to improve my skills eventually making me a much more marketable professional when I enter the work force.

National Design Competition

Hello All!

My name is Kati Stoll and I am from Casper, Wyoming. I am a senior here at the University of Wyoming and am eagerly awaiting graduation.  I am a Family and Consumer Sciences major with a concentration in Textiles and Merchandising. I also have minors in Apparel Design and Interior Design, as well as a secondary degree in Business Marketing. I currently am working as an intern at the local shoe store here in Laramie, Dodds Shoe Company. This has been an outstanding job for me because I hope to work as a buyer or visual merchandiser in a retail store.

The end of this semester is close in sight. I am sure the rest of the student body is as excited as I am. Laramie is starting to see spring, it has been beautiful the last few days and hopefully it will stay this way for the rest of the semester.

Textiles Are My Future

Hi my name is Whitney Taylor and I am part of the Family Consumer Sciences Department with a concentration in Textiles and Merchandising and a minor in Apparel Design. I am a senior in College and I swam for the University for four years. I grew up in Phoenix, AZ and decided it was time to see something new and found Laramie, WY. I miss the hot weather of Arizona, but love Wyoming for the beautiful atmosphere and wonderful people. I enjoy fashion, traveling, and meeting new people. I am always up for adventure and spend most of my free time enjoying the outdoors for trips to snowshoe, climb, or camping and bouldering.

I came into college loving fashion and clothes and have learned more about clothing and textiles then I thought possible. This week I got the chance to dye and paint on clothing. There is a large difference in both processes but it is very exciting to learn about it in my Fiber Arts course. There is an abundant amount of chemistry that goes into the painting application and how certain dyes will dye different fibers and fabrics. My class explored different reactions with products like adding salt to the fabric, which made a very interesting design where the salt reacted with the dye. This class has been very fun to learn more about decorative applications in textiles.
